Vietnam Conflict 1959- 1975
The Vietnam Conflict was the longest war/ conflict the United States has ever been involved with, and arguably, the most unpopular. In the 1960’s, the United States entered the war, helping the French. America’s intention was to stop the spread of communism into Southeastern Asia, and the rest of the world. The war ended in April 1975, when North Korea captured Saigon. Billions of dollars, and nearly 60,000 American casualties later, the conflict was nearly a failure.
Pembroke sent one hundred and thirty-one men and women to aid in the effort in Vietnam. Fortunately, they all made it back home.
