Welcome to "Operation: Honor the Veterans"
about "OPERATION: honor the veterans"
Nicole Rice is a 2013 graduate of Pembroke High School and a Girl Scout from Ambassador Troop 80074 in Pembroke, Massachusetts. To earn her Gold Award, she created "Operation: Honor the Veterans" to commemorate the soldiers from Pembroke who were Killed-in-Action.
She researched all of these veterans, and used her work to create a webpage and book. Copies of the books are available for checkout at the Pembroke Public Library.
Please take a moment to learn about these great Americans who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I hope you enjoy this project.
Thank you. God Bless America.

Thank you...
First and foremost, I’d like to thank the American Legion Post 143 for allowing me to put my project on their website. I’d especially like to thank Mr. Donald Kernan, who designs and maintains the Post 143 website, for working with me and making this project possible.
In addition, I’d like to thank the following people for helping me with research. There was so much research to be done, so many questions to be answered, and I really could not have done it all by myself.
I’d like to thank Mr. David McPhillips, Veterans Agent and father of First Lieutenant Brian McPhillips, for helping me research the World War II veterans, as well as the Civil War veterans. I’d also like to thank him for providing me with personal stories and photos of Brian. Additionally, I’d like to thank the Bean family and Crudup family for sharing stories, pictures, and memories with me. I wanted to commemorate their sons in the most accurate way possible, and they helped me to do that. I cannot thank them enough.
The Town Memorial Committee also deserves recognition for their help. The Committee approved my project, and was more than excited for me to begin. Ms. Linda Osborne, Chairman of the Committee, helped me with research and was a great source of support.
I also owe a big thank you to Mr. Mark Moneypenny, my Project Advisor. He helped me so much by allowing me to tag-along with him when he changed the flags at the traffic island memorials, introducing me to the American Legion, and answering my phone calls. I am so glad that I chose him as my Project Advisor.
I am also thankful for the support of the Pembroke Military Support Group, the Historical Society, the Pembroke Public Library, my Girl Scout Leader Stephanie Skolnick, Troop 80074, my friends, my family, and of course, Alice "Bo" Bowen, my Gold Award Council Advisor. There have been obstacles, some ups and downs, but I knew the whole time I had the best support system behind me, pushing me forward. I would also like to thank the First Church for allowing our Troop to use the gathering area for our meetings and functions.
Thank you to everybody who has made this project a success. I could not have done this without the help and support of these amazing people, and I really cannot express just how grateful I am.
A special thank you goes out to all soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, to ensure our freedom. I am eternally grateful.

"America's fighting men and women sacrifice much to ensure that our great nation stays free. We owe a debt of gratitude to the soldiers that have paid the ultimate price for this cause, as well as for those who are blessed enough to return from the battlefield unscathed."
